While the rest of us were wrapping presents and having some eggnog, Barack Obama was destroying the United States’ relationship with Israel. One Republican Senator is fed up.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz has issued a scathing statement criticizing the Obama administration for allowing the US Ambassador to the United Nations abstain from the vote that put a halt to Israeli settlements on the border between Israel and Palestine, as per Red State Watcher. Ted Cruz says that he looks forward to working with Donald Trump to de-fund the United Nations!
To further explain why, Cruz said, “For eight long years, the Obama administration has worked systematically to undermine the nation of Israel. They actively worked to defeat Prime Minister Netanyahu, and illegally used U.S. taxpayer funds to do so. Never has there been a more anti-Israel Administration, and today’s United Nations vote is the culmination of their systemic agenda to weaken Israel and strengthen its enemies.”
The failure of the United States to use its veto power for this anti-Israel resolution at the United Nations Security Council is a break in US-Israel relations that is stunning foreign policy experts. The measure comes despite lobbying efforts by Israel and the call of President-Elect Trump to veto the resolution.
It appears that Barack Obama wants to break our relations with the Jewish State. The poor relationship between Obama and Netanyahu is exemplified by the fact that Netanyahu came and spoke in front of Congress last year without even meeting with the President.
Israel has traditionally been the United States’ greatest ally in the Middle East. It is one of the most important foreign relationships that America has, considering it is the only democracy in the Middle Eastern region.
Moreover, Israel is under the constant threat of attack from Palestine and terror groups around the world. That is why Republicans have worked so hard to make sure that the US provides foreign aid to help Israel build up its missile defense system and fend off these terror attacks.
Cruz is now attempting to gather support to reduce or even eliminate US funding for the United Nations. He also wants to potentially cut off foreign aid to countries that supported this resolution because we should not be giving money to countries who are hostile to our friends. Cruz and President-Elect Trump want to assure Israel and our allies that the new administration will not allow anything like this to happen.
Cruz has always been on the side of Israel. Early this year, he was booed by Palestinians for his pro-Israel beliefs at a Washington D.C. speech in front of an organization called In Defense of Christians. (via CBN).
Here are Cruz’s comments from that event, “Those who hate Israel hate America. Those who hate Jews hate Christians. If those in this room will not recognize that, then my heart weeps. If you hate the Jewish people, you are not reflecting the teachings of Christ. And the very same people who persecute and murder Christians right now, who crucify Christians, who behead children, are the very same people who target Jews for their faith, for the same reason.”
After the crowd became hostile and started booing, Cruz said this before walking offstage, “My heart weeps that the men and women here will not stand in solidarity with Jews and Christians alike who are persecuted by radicals. If you will not stand with Israel and the Jews, then I will not stand with you. Thank you and God bless you.”
