Having won an Emmy and Golden Globe for her performance in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Elisabeth Moss needs no introduction.
Now it’s been revealed that the acclaimed actress, who’s currently filming the second season of Handmaid’s Tale, set to air this spring (April 25), will reunite with writer-director Alex Ross Perry for the feature film Her Smell. The pair previously collaborated on Listen Up Philip (2014) and Queen of Earth (2015).
In Her Smell, Moss will play a young woman called Becky Something. Yep, that’s really her character’s name… we didn’t just forget half her moniker.
Her character is described as, “A maniacally destructive punk rock star who pushes her relationships with bandmates, family and followers to the limit as she wages a years-long war against sobriety while attempting to re-engage the creativity that had once led her band to massive crossover success.”
Oof! That’s a lot going on in one sentence — and for one person to handle… but, the conflict should make for good storytelling.
Moss will lead an ensemble cast, although no other names are confirmed at this point. That’s OK, she’s enough to get us interested.
Moss is also a producer on Her Smell, which goes into production this fall. We’re not surprised to hear she’s working behind-the-scenes, with Moss also in talks to help develop the BBC America miniseries Fever, based on Mary Beth Keane‘s novel of the same name. The story examines the first known carrier of typhoid fever, who landed in the history books as “Typhoid Mary.”
In case you missed it, here’s a peek at Moss and Perry’s earlier work together on Queen of Earth… which is pretty intense:
You can check out Moss as seasoned detective Robin Griffin in the second season of SundanceTV’s Top of the Lake: China Girl, also available for streaming via Hulu.
Another intense role…
And if you’re hungry for more Moss, here she is chatting with Anglo’s Sharon Carpenter about time travel at 2017’s Tribeca Film Festival:
