Robert Pattinson has starred in a number of different film genres, including the YA fantasy series Twilight (2008-2012), 2011’s romantic drama Water for Elephants, and last year’s thriller Good Time.
But, he’s yet to star in a horror flick. And, that’s about to change…
Pattinson joins Willem Dafoe in director Robert Eggers‘ The Lighthouse, a fantasy-horror hybrid. This is Eggers second feature film, making his directorial debut in 2015 with The Witch.
The story revolves around an aging lighthouse keeper, who goes by the name Old. It’s set in early 20th century Maine.
Dafoe is set to portray Old, with Pattinson’s character yet to be revealed. There aren’t a ton of details about the film, but according to Deadline Hollywood it involves “old sea-faring myths.”
While the 411 is limited, the folks over at A4, who are producing the film, released a statement, giving a bit of insight: “This new script blew us away — it creates a totally unique and ambitious universe and manages to somehow feel scary, suspenseful, wondrous, and beautiful all at the same time.”
That is a lot happening in one space, but that’s the great thing about moviemaking… there’s room.
Dafoe recently received an Academy Award nomination for his role in the 2017 film The Florida Project. We can also look for him in 2018’s superhero flick Aquaman, opposite Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa in the title role.
Still in the early stages, there is no release date for The Lighthouse. In the meantime, we can look for Pattinson in the 2018 sci-fi (another genre!) film High Life.
Robert Pattinson seems kind of perfect for horror — what do you think?
