First Look: Chadwick Boseman is Intense as Marvel Superhero Black Panther in New Poster

Today (November 28) we get a look at Chadwick Boseman (Marshall) reprising his role as Black Panther, in the forthcoming film entitled… just that, Black Panther.

We first met the on-screen version of Black Panther in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, when he appeared opposite Martin Freeman‘s government agent Everett K. Ross, who’s also returning for the forthcoming Marvel installment. Ross acted as an escort to T’Challa, Black Panther’s other persona, upon arrival to the U.S. What’s T’Challa’s “day job” you ask? Oh, just ruler of Wakanda, a fictional African nation

In case you missed it, here’s a quick look back at the scene in Captain America where Scarlett Johansson‘s Natasha Romanoff gives T’Challa a psyche exam, with Ross stepping in to save the day… in a way:

T’Challa is one striking dignitary, but in costume as Black Panther, he’s super intense:

His hard stare speaks volumes — something is amiss. Which is an understatement really, because in the 2018 film, T’Challa/Black Panther must work to save his kingdom of Wakanda.

The official statement helps fill in the blanks: “Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.”

We have confidence in him, based on the skills he shows off in the recently released footage below:

There aren’t a ton of details on how Freeman’s character fits into the whole “saving a nation” scheme, but we will definitely keep an eye out.

You can also look for familiar faces like Michael B. Jordan (Fantastic Four), Lupita Nyong’o (Queen of Katwe), Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes), Angela Bassett (London Has Fallen), Forest Whitaker (Empire) and Sterling K. Brown (This is Us).

If Black Panther is your kind of superhero, there’s more of him to come, with Boseman having completed filming on 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, and currently working on the next Avengers film (2019).
