Tom Ellis was on the radio in the UK this week (May 31), and, much as we love his new show Lucifer, it was his mention of Miranda that made our ears prick up.
It’s been two years since the hilarious sitcom left our screens, but we haven’t stopped hoping it might come back. That’s not just blind hope, either: first cast member Sarah Hadland let slip something about a reunion, then star and creator of the show Miranda Hart was recently quoted as saying she could see a possible future for the sitcom — albeit not on the big screen as some previous rumors had suggested.
“I think you could do married life as a sitcom,” she told the BBC, “with Miranda and Gary and see how they’re getting on.”
We think so too! But okay, let’s not get carried away. We’ve had our hopes dashed in the past (that Friends reunion, you say? Never gonna happen), and there are no concrete plans in that statement. That doesn’t stop us getting a teeny weeny bit excited, though.
Anyway. *clears throat*. Where were we? Oh yes. And now Tom, who plays Miranda’s love interest Gary Preston in the series, has added weight to the rumors and speculation by hinting that fans can expect a revival in the near future.
“We may be revisiting Miranda at some point in the next couple of years,” he told radio presenter Steve Wright. “I think with Miranda and Gary now married and the potential for a family [is there]. So watch this space.”
Thankfully too, there don’t seem to be any of the clashes between cast members that can sometimes thwart other TV reunions. In fact, Tom hints he and Miranda, who’s currently starring as Miss Hannigan in Annie: The Musical in London, are still close.
“She’s one of my favorite people,” he said. “She’s wonderful.”
Aww. Have a listen:
Tom is of course committed to Lucifer, the comedy fantasy drama about the devil who gets bored of Hell so moves to Los Angeles. Its second season just aired on Fox in the U.S., and a third season is on its way later this year.
All that requires a lengthy stay in L.A., though we’re sure Tom could squeeze in a few trips back home to update us on how Gary and Miranda are getting on.
Does this get your hopes up?
