‘Orphan Black’ Co-Creator Confirmed as Showrunner for ‘Snowpiercer’ TV Series

The 2013 sic-fi/action film Snowpiercer is being made into a TV series, according to ComingSoon.net. And, who’s going to be the showrunner? The folks over at TNT are turning to the best-of-the-best, recruiting BBC America’s Orphan Black writer and producer Graeme Manson.

We’re still missing OB, which came to a conclusion in 2017, but we’re excited to discover that one of its creators will be on deck for this new show.

The original film, based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette, featured an incredible ensemble cast that includes Jamie Bell, Chris Evans, Ed Harris, Octavia Spencer, John Hurt, and Tilda Swinton. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world. Almost all life on Earth has been killed off by an experiment designed to stop global warming, which instead kick-started a new ice age. But there are a few survivors living on a rocket-fast train (called Snowpiercer) that never stops moving.

As the isolated community circles the globe, with the passengers unable get off, a class system develops… it’s a little bit Lord of the Flies.

And, how did Manson become attached to the project? EVP of original programming at TNT, Sarah Aubrey, answers that question, saying in a statement: “Graeme’s extensive background in the sci-fi genre coupled with his brilliant work behind Orphan Black made him the perfect choice for this series.”

Oh, okay, it’s not just us… he is the BOTB.

Manson reciprocated the kind words with a thoughtful  Twitter update, that included a shoutout to #CloneClub:

So we know who’ll be running the show, but do we know who’s set to star in Snowpiercer the series? Yes indeed. It’ll be awash with familiar faces, including Jennifer Connelly (Spider-Man Homecoming), Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), and Katie McGuinness (The Borgias).

The 2018 Snowpiercer pilot is confirmed, with the number of episodes to be announced.

Do you think Graeme Manson’s Orphan Black background will take Snowpiercer to the next level?
