People around the world are freaking out about the fact that a Russian body artist recently fed his cat pain killers so he could be tattooed. The hairless Sphynx cat, named Demon, obviously could not consent to receive four ‘gangster’ tattoos, which is why animal rights activists are shaming the artist.
As Daily Mail reports, the four tattoos feature a prison tower, playing cards, and a cigarette. These images are often tattooed onto Russian criminals. According to Elizabeth Skorynin, head of an animal rehabilitation center, Sphynx cats have very sensitive skin, and any little injury causes them pain and discomfort. she also mentioned that anesthesia is bad for the cats, with the survival rate being about 50%.
“The drug turns off the movement of the cat, but the brain is still working. If he does it frequently, it could affect its heart,” added Skorynina.
The artist, Aleksandr Purtov, defends the practice of tattooing animals. Reportedly, he said it’s become normal for farmers to tattoo their animals, so there’s no reason for it to be considered unethical at present.
“Of course I feel pity for doing it to him. It’s not like he wanted to do it himself. He has a different skin, so tattoos are applied differently,” commented Purtov. “I hope it is not too bad for him, it is not his first tattoo. Usually, he feels fine and recovers from the anesthesia pretty fast.”

People are upset because the animal couldn’t give consent.
Additionally, animal rights activist Elizabeth Skorynin claims the anesthesia could damage the cat’s heart as well as cause it pain.
People have become enraged by the callousness of the owner:
