WATCH: Karen Gillan’s Mini-Me Nebula Puppet Combats Bad Weather with a Song

Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) is set to return as the villain-turned-hero Nebula in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War (May 4). Her character was noticeably missing in the first trailer, adding to the buildup, but we did get a look at her in the second teaser.

Possibly, Gillan is now making up for her absence, with some superhero-esque hijinks on her personal Instagram page. It’s not Gillan we’re seeing, but a Nebula hand puppet. And what is Gillan’s mini-me up to? She’s singing Billie Holiday‘s “Stormy Weather” on a particularly rainy day.

We’re loving the puppet’s rendition of the 1933 song, but it’s Gillan’s husky, soulful voice that is truly attention-grabbing:

We first met Nebula in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which revolved around a group of intergalactic criminals and boasted an ensemble cast made up of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista. Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper were also on hand to lend their voices to CGI characters. Gillan returned for the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel in 2017 and she’ll take a third turn as Nebula in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, joining the whole lot of Marvel superheroes, including Captain America (Chris Evans), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

We recently saw Gillan portraying an avatar who comes to life in 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and she’ll also star in the Jumanji sequel, announced earlier this month. Gillan has completed filming on All Creatures Here Below and The Party’s Just Beginning, both releasing later this year.

What do you think of Karen Gillan’s puppeteering skills?
